If you live in a town of under 10,000, they say you can add two ycais. This four-year urban/rural spread is one on a list of mea sures of life expectancy con tained in Lifegain, a recent book by Robert F. Allen, PhD. Everyone starts with an aver age life expectancy of 72 years. It is interesting to guess at the causes behind the additions and subtractions from life expectan cies. A friend of The Lanier Library has set up, a fascinating display of his own extensive collection. In the small space of the library showcase he has shown three different military theatres: 1. The War between the States with Confederate and Union soldiers against each other; 2 The French Foreign Legion shown against Arabs of the desert; 3. The Coronation of the King with a parade, royal coach, Horse Guards and Foot Guards. McCon nell, a native of South Carolina came to St. Luke's Hospital, as a medical technologist over 10 years a S 0 - Sh c was promoted in 1982 to her cunent position as director of the medical labora tory. 20C Per 1 opy Grant Given To Preserve Land In Bradley Falls Area Money has been awarded to acquire land in the Bradley Falls-Cove Creek Natural Area in Polk County, the Polk County Commissioners learned Monday night. Gov. Jim Martin on Friday announced the award of $1.2 million to seven different reci pients in North Carolina's Rec reation and Natural Heritage Trust Fund Program. During the citizen comments portion of Monday’s board meeting, Paul Culberson informed the board of the award. In other business: • Polk County Manager John Lewis announced that Polk has received a $30,000 grant as part of Goy. Martin's Mountain Area Planning program. The money will be used to begin com prehensive land use planning efforts. 6 The commissioners, by a vote a 3-2, decided to begin paying county employees twice monthly rather than monthly.
